If you live in an apartment, you can still grow fresh produce on your balcony or patio. I don’t think there is anything more tasty then fresh picked vine-ripened tomatoes. Earthbox has created a great container gardening system for growing garden vegetables of your choice in small areas. Plus it has wheels so it can be easily maneuvered to where ever you wish it to be.
The Earthbox measures thirty by thirteen and a half by twelve inches. You can plan on purchasing two and a half cubic feet of soil for this planter. When you get your Earthbox the first thing you will need to do is place the aeration grate on the bottom of the box. The grate provides space for the water to be held and to separate the soil. Place the watering tube in next. Finally you will have to add your soil. The main thing Earthbox is known for is requreing less water, fertilizer, and a small amount of space. Plus you get a higher yield of produce then you do with a traditionally planted garden. The bottom portion of the container can hold three gallons of water so that the soil retains the perfect amount of moisture. You just need to make sure that the resevoir stays full. Some plants that really work well with the Earthbox are tomatoes. Tomatoes like to be hot. You can usually fit two tomato plants in a box. Tomato plants will grow very large in these containers so be prepared to provide them with support. The Earthbox also works well for melons. With these vining plants you will have to make room for the vines. If you are lacking room you could consider making a trellis system to let the vines grow up. You will need to support melons and squash if you use a trellis though. Fresh herbs, lettuce, and fresh produce are all easily grown in the Earthbox. Earthboxes are easy to setup and maintain. You just need to keep an eye on the water levels. You will love having fresh produce right at your fingertips. @@AMAZONTEXT;B000JUW8RE;Earthbox@@Tagged with: General
